Handloads.Com Forum Cast Bullets Lots of loads for the favored son--the .41 | | Author | This thread is locked. | Posted by: LynnL56Date: 3/19/2003 12:51:45 PM Posts: 54 | I finally got around to clocking most of what I was interested in for my .41's The facts 1st generation pact--10 ft to the first screen-- I make no recomendation-- for your info only and from my guns not yours three guns-- a 6" DWA, a blue 5.5 Redhawk and a ss 5.5 Redhawk. Most of the loads are for cast bullits but there are some jhps I will just give load the gun and the average-- they speak for my guns 6" DWA 21 /H110 230 Creeker Keith av 1301 21 /296 230 "" " av 1300 22 /296 Lyman 410459 220 Keith av 1334 22/ gr/2400 200 Remington jhp av 1470 23/2400 170 Seirra jhp av 1527 SS Redhawk 5.5" *12.5/ gr 800x Lyman 220 Keith av 1365 ElmerKeith's load of 2400 with the new 2400 *20 /2400 lyman 220 keith av 1470 21/ 296 215gr swc 1347 7.0 /800x Lyman 220 keith 867 *14 gr /800x Remington 200 gr jhp av 1531 ?15 gr /800x 170 Seirra av1633 Blue 5.5 Redhawk 22/ 296 220 Keith av1334 19/ 2400 220 Keith av 1245 23/ 2400 170 gr Seirra av 1522 22/2400 Remington 200 gr jhp av1439 12.5 800x 230 Creeker Keith av 1290 the loads with a star are very accurate for example the 12.5 800x load with the 220 keith has an es of 9 and a mad of 3.2 - the load with a" ? " was not accurate at all --the es was 113.9 and mad 29 anyway all of these were fine in my guns. While a little dirty --I have had good results from 800x in my .41s except with 170 gr. boolits -- I am still awaiting my .41 GNR -- it will be fun --

I'm sure you'll have a ball working up the 41 GNR, Reeder says they get 2,100 fps from an 8" test barrel with a 170gr JHP in that caliber. | | John We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces, singing; whiskey for my men, beer for my horses Molon Labe! | | Author | This thread is locked. | | Tell me about that load of 20gr of 2400 with the Lyman 220. That sound like a real snorter. Is that the Lyman Keith type bullet. | | God Bless Terry | | Author | This thread is locked. | Posted by: LynnL56Date: 3/22/2003 8:26:47 PM Posts: 54 | Elmer always recomended 19 -20 grains of the old 2400. with his 220 Keith-- the Blackhawks I have had will not shoot it - but the three.41s I have now will. I have two cast bullet handbooks from Lyman and one goes to 21 grains -- the rest 20 grains. The bullet I am using is the Lyman 410459 and it is a 220 gr cast Keith type- I have a two cavity mold and a one cavity mold - -- wheel weights cast 225-228 - and i made some tonight out of mostly lino and they run 215-217 gr. I also cast soft noses out of the one cavity- and when I do it right they work well -- first deer I ever took with a hand gun was this bullet cast soft (weighed 230gr)and 20 gr. H110 - in -out with a thunb size hole in the heart- three hops and down. It can be very accurate --like three inches at 100yards-- sadly my 5.5 Redhawks are not as cast friendly as I would like--but they are usable around 3" at 50 yards but I am stil working on them:) does this answer your question -- oh yeah most say that the new 2400 is a little faster so there is a need to tone down the loads -- good advice - but I have noticed tht the manuels even with Jacketed bullets are still up there. anyway load safe and have fun | | | | Author | This thread is locked. | | Thanks for the info Lynn. Did you know you can post your loads on this site? http://www.handloads.com/loaddata/enter_new.asp | | God Bless Terry | | Author | This thread is locked. | Posted by: LynnL56Date: 3/24/2003 11:14:47 AM Posts: 54 | Never thoguht about it but I can and will when I get a chance. | | | Handloads.Com Forum Cast Bullets Lots of loads for the favored son--the .41 |
